Its association with class and elegance has made it very popular as a decorative element worldwide.

If you love this fabric and want to learn how to draw it and maybe draw some variations, you’ve come to the right guide!

How to Draw Lace

Step 1

This first step of our lace drawing guide will be easy.

All you keep to do is tauten a curved horizontal line, which we will add in the following steps.

Step 2

We’ll use a pencil to draw the next line in this part of your lace design.

The pencil is used as this line will not appear in the final drawing but will be used to guide you in a future step.

All you have to do for this step is draw a few curved loop lines that start at the top line, extend low enough to reach the bottom line, and then go back to the top line.

For this line, draw a curve from it, identical to the one in the previous step, but further down.

You can place it slightly lower or higher than our reference image!

Step 3

You used a pencil for the previous step, but you can return to the pen for this step, as these elements will appear in the final image.

If you used a pen to draw over your pencil, let the ink dry before erasing! You don’t want to smudge your drawing by erasing it with pen ink too soon.

Step 4

This part of your lace design is easier, as you must erase the pencil line from the previous steps.

Now that you’ve outlined your lace, you can start decorating it in this step of our lace drawing guide.

Step 5

Now that you’ve outlined your lace, you can start decorating it in this step of our lace drawing guide.

You drew some slightly larger circles in the previous step, but you can draw smaller ones in between. This will help create the decidedly pretty pattern that characterizes the lace.

Begin by drawing a series of small circles along each curved line of the underside of the tip.

With these decorative elements, don’t be afraid to mix things up a little if you want a new pattern for the lace.

Step 6

You can further add to the pattern of your lace design in this step of your lace design.

To do this, we’ll draw shapes on top of the rows of circles you drew earlier. The pattern consists of another small circle closer to the top of the lace and three ovals below that circle.

Step 7

We will draw more patterns for your lace in step 7 of our lace drawing guide.

To do this, we’ll draw shapes on top of the rows of circles you drew earlier. The pattern consists of another small circle closer to the top of the lace and three ovals below that circle.

The next steps of your lace design should be easy enough as you will continue the pattern you started in the previous step.

Again, you can easily customize the design of this template if you’d like, but be careful to keep the pattern consistent for the other sections.

Step 8

The next steps of your lace design should be easy enough as you will continue the pattern you started in the previous step.

This conveys the last step of this guide, where you can let go and have fun expressing yourself with color for your lace design.

We used a pretty pink for our image as it is a color that goes well with the delicacy of the lace.

Draw the shape you created using a circle and three thin ovals in the next section of lace.

Step 9

Now you know the exercise! Before proceeding to step 10 of our lace drawing guide, you can draw the final part of the pattern. Again, this looks exactly like what you drew for the previous two steps.

Draw Lace

Now that you’ve drawn this lace section, you know how to do it, and you can easily stretch it out even more if you want a larger lace stripe!

However, you should feel free of this and use whatever colors you love for your drawing.

What art media would work well for your beautiful drawing? If I were to color this image, I would use watercolors for a softer, more elegant look.
